Senior Functional Safety Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to deliver functional safety studies, analyses, and engineering solutions that ensure safe, reliable, and compliant oil & gas projects.

Tasks & responsibilities:

• Lead and deliver functional safety engineering activities in line with project specifications, contractual requirements, international codes, industry standards, and regulations.
• Perform, review, and coordinate functional safety analyses and studies, including SIL and LOPA-related activities.
• Select and optimise engineering methods, procedures, and technical solutions within the assigned scope of work.
• Plan and complete functional safety deliverables within agreed schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
• Ensure proper interfaces between functional safety, I&E, ICSS, process safety, engineering disciplines, vendors, subcontractors, and third parties.
• Act as Responsible Engineer for functional safety-related analyses and studies performed by third parties when required.
• Review and follow up on vendor, subcontractor, and third-party input related to functional safety requirements.
• Ensure the assigned scope is delivered in accordance with contractual requirements, project standards, and internal procedures.
• Apply lessons learned and assess the impact of design or scope changes across project system boundaries.
• Support concept development, detailed design, systems engineering, and site engineering activities from a functional safety perspective.
• Lead engineers on defined scopes of work and act as Discipline Lead when required.
• Contribute to safe, reliable, and sustainable project delivery through accurate analysis, planning, and technical coordination.

• Engineering diploma or degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• 10 to 15 years of experience in the oil & gas industry.
• Strong experience with functional safety-related analyses and studies.
• Experience with oil & gas EPC projects is required.
• Background in I&E, ICSS, instrumentation, control systems, or safety-related systems is strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Functional Safety, SIL, LOPA, and related engineering principles.
• Knowledge of international functional safety standards and industry requirements, such as IEC 61508 and IEC 61511, is considered an advantage!
• Experience with engineering design and calculation tools, concept development, detailed design, systems engineering, and site engineering.
• Experience coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, third parties, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Able to plan, prioritise, and deliver technical activities within agreed timeframes and budgets.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Offshore project experience is preferred.
• Leadership experience or the ability to guide engineers on assigned scopes of work is considered an advantage!
