Senior Project Engineer - Process & Rotating Packages
Profile Senior Project Engineer - Process & Rotating Packages
Pumps, compressors, separators and the skids around them are often what decides whether an offshore project stays on schedule. For a long-term oil and gas project run from Rotterdam, our client, a leading international offshore energy company, is looking for a seasoned freelancer to take charge of its process and rotating equipment packages: someone who keeps scope, cost, planning and suppliers under control from purchase order to delivery.
-
You are at your best when you are steering a package, not designing it. If your background is in project engineering, package management or project management, and you enjoy being the person who holds suppliers, engineers and the client to one plan, this assignment fits you well.
-
What you will be doing
Running your packages
- Set up and maintain the plan, schedule and budget for the process and rotating equipment packages, in line with what the project and its stakeholders expect.
- Track progress closely, see risks coming and step in early so that milestones are met.
- Keep a firm grip on cost, recognise contractual changes as they arise and handle them properly.
Connecting the project
- Act as the link between engineering, procurement and construction, so that every package requirement is covered.
- Be the main point of contact for suppliers, subcontractors, the end client and authorities, keeping communication clear in every project phase.
- Negotiate with vendors and manage third parties and subcontracts.
Making sound decisions
- Lead technical evaluations, feasibility checks and risk assessments that feed into project decisions.
- Make sure package documentation meets industry standards, safety rules and project procedures.
Developing the team
- Coach and support less experienced project engineers and help the team keep improving.
What you bring
- A Bachelor's degree in engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 10 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, in project engineering, package management or project management.
- Experience with process and/or rotating equipment packages, for example pumps, compressors or process skids.
- Work experience in Europe.
- A commercial mindset: budget and cost control, change management, subcontracting, negotiation, planning and risk management.
- Confidence with project management software and tools.
- A structured and precise way of working, with an eye for quality and detail.
- The leadership to make decisions and the communication skills to bring a multidisciplinary team along.
What's in it for you
- A long-term freelance assignment starting in December 2026.
- Clear ownership: the process and rotating equipment packages are yours to deliver.
- A senior role on a large international offshore project.
- A hybrid week with two days working from home.
- An experienced project team based in Rotterdam.
