We are looking for a Sustainability Professional to join FMO's Sustainability Standards Integration team. Positioned between FMO’s investment teams, and internal and external stakeholders, you link ESG strategy and ESG execution and you help strengthen ESG integration across our investment and processes. Your Role

As Sustainability Officer, you will translate sustainability standards and regulations into practical solutions, support ESG risk management, strategic steering, and advise on complex sustainability challenges. Working closely with investment teams and external partners, you will help ensure that ESG considerations are embedded in investment decisions and contribute to FMO's development impact.

Key activities will be:

Strengthen ESG impact risk management by:

  • Translating sustainability standards and regulatory requirements into ESG policies, frameworks and investment criteria.
  • Strengthening ESG impact risk identification, assessment, mitigation and monitoring throughout the investment process.
  • Supporting ESG reporting and internal and external sustainability narratives.
  • Contributing to sound ESG risk management practices.

Support strategic steering on ESG by:

  • Analysing portfolio data to identify ESG trends, priorities and improvement opportunities.
  • Linking ESG priorities to value creation initiatives and evaluation findings.
  • Identifying and facilitating innovative ESG solutions.
  • Building and strengthening partnerships with Development Finance Institutions, Multilateral Development Banks and other stakeholders.

Develop an efficient and effective ESG operating model by:

  • Developing and implementing pragmatic and risk-based ESG policies, tools and processes.
  • Strengthening governance and accountability for ESG and regulatory due diligence.
  • Delivering training and awareness initiatives that support ESG integration across FMO.

Provide deal-related support by:

  • Advising investment and sector teams on complex transactions and ESG challenges.
  • Supporting ESG+ sector teams with due diligence and portfolio monitoring on an ad hoc basis.

  • Gross yearly salary ranging from EUR 75-85K (based on 40 hours per week, including 8% holiday allowance and 13th month) depending on your seniority, years of relevant experience, and background).

  • Hybrid way of working (at least 3 days in the office).

Your Team

The ESG+ department consists of five teams:

  • Agribusiness, Food & Forestry
  • Energy
  • Financial Institutions and Private Equity
  • Corporate Governance
  • Sustainability Standards Integration

Together, these teams deliver ESG impacts across FMO's portfolio. The Sustainability Standards & Integration team translates ESG priorities into practical solutions, from risk management, regulatory requirements and strategic steering to company wide initiatives and transaction support.

You will join a team of six professionals and work closely with investment teams, ESG specialists, sustainability and impact colleagues across the organization.

Your Background

  • Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, Human Rights or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in sustainable finance, development finance, impact investing or a related field.
  • Experience conducting ESG due diligence and monitoring, preferably in client-facing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of international ESG standards and frameworks, including IFC Performance Standards, UNGPs and OECD Guidelines.
  • Experience developing ESG tools, guidelines and processes.
