Art Works Projects (AWP), a Chicago and The Hague-based nonprofit, created to confront human rights abuses, challenge injustice, and mobilise audiences beyond awareness to action through visual storytelling, new media, and public engagement.

AWP offers year-round internships for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the role of visual storytelling in human rights advocacy. Interns gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations, advocacy, communications, programming, and collaboration with AWP staff, board members, artists, and partners.

Because AWP is a small, interdisciplinary organization, assignments vary with current projects and organizational needs. Students with interests in international relations, journalism, marketing and communications, design, programming, public policy, language studies, visual arts, and art history are encouraged to apply.

AWP Hague-based interns will have the following responsibilities and opportunities:

• Conducting research related to international criminal law across a broad range of human rights issues
• Writing captions and concept notes for events, documentary films, exhibitions, and more
• Planning and setting up events in The Hague
• Coordinating with Hague and European partners
• Grant prospecting and writing
• Staffing and coordinating events for diplomatic, advocacy, and expert attendees in The Hague (other opportunities for travel to Brussels may be possible)
• Researching, pursuing, and connecting AWP to new partners, collaborators, and funders based in The Hague and the EU
