Located in the heart of The Hague, the International City of Peace and Justice, the Asser Institute is a leading inter-university research centre in the field of international and European law with a high public and international profile. The institute conducts fundamental and independent policy-oriented research, provides training and education, organises seminars, conferences, and other public events, and has its own publishing house, T.M.C. Asser Press. The institute is affiliated with the University of Amsterdam.

The Communications and PR team is seeking a full-time intern to assist with the implementation of communications and social media strategies for a wide variety of events and publications. You will further work closely with your communications colleagues, the researchers, and the Events department to ensure that all communications are carried out successfully pre-, post-, and during events. You will have plenty of opportunities to express and develop new ideas.

• Time commitment: Full-time (38 hours per week - study commitments could be taken into account)

• Starting date: 16 November 2026

• Period: 6 months, with a possibility of extension by up to 3 months (totaling 9 months max)

• Location: The Hague (in person – this is not a remote working opportunity)

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Communications Department in implementing the communications strategy across various online platforms, as well as internally.

• Contribute to designing and developing communications materials for PR and marketing purposes, including videos, flyers, and brochures.

• Produce written and visual content for our online platforms (website, social media, and newsletters) and assist with web care.

• Help create communications plans and campaigns for our research and training activities.

• Conduct interviews (both written and on camera) with our researchers on their latest work, and with speakers and participants at our regular events.

Applicants must:

• You must be enrolled in – or recently graduated from – a bachelor's or master's programme in a relevant field (e.g. journalism, communications, marketing, media studies, public relations, international or European law, international relations or European studies).

• You are fluent in written and spoken English. Dutch is a plus but not mandatory.

• You possess excellent writing and editing skills. You have real hands-on experience managing different social media platforms and producing online content.

• You are a Microsoft Office Master (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

• You are a quick learner, confident working independently, and in an enthusiastic team.

• You have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and can express your ideas openly and constructively.

• Experience with InDesign, video editing and/or photography is a serious plus.

• You possess organisational and time management skills and can work on several projects simultaneously.

• You are creative and proactive with an eye for detail.

• You take the initiative to improve and develop the projects you are working on.

• You have a valid work permit to reside and work in the Netherlands.

Conditions

• 38 hours per week for a period of 6 months, with a possibility of extension by up to 3 months (totaling 9 months max);

• A stipend of €736 gross per month.

• Internships at the Asser Institute are for students only. This means that you must be registered as a student at a university or a school and must be eligible to live and work in the Netherlands (either through EU citizenship or a student visa from a Dutch university). Recent graduates (bachelor and master) may apply only within the first year of graduation, when ‘learning through interning’ may still add to your education.

• The internship is an opportunity to learn in an active and dynamic research environment. Therefore, we expect interns to be present at the Institute in The Hague. It is not a remote working opportunity.
